"Like Father Like Son" was originally released on Friday, June 5, 1998.

The crowd stared as John Ross climbed out of the Southfork pool, dripping wet. Alan Beam stood staring at him, moving his eyes back and forth between J.R. and John Ross. Finally, he fixed his eyes coldly on J.R.. The crowd hushed and there was not a sound to be heard. Finally, J.R. broke the silence. "I don't know what the hell you're talking about Beam, but you've got a lot of nerve barging in here like this and you've got about thirty seconds to get the hell of Southfork," he said, faking anger.

"No J.R. Not until everyone here hears what kind of son you have," said Beam, turning to the crowd, "John Ross, why don't you tell us what happened between you and Pamela...Why don't you tell us how you made her pregnant?"

John Ross turned red and stuttered, "I...I don't know what you're talking about."

"Damn, all you Ewings are exactly the same," replied Beam angrily.

"That's a damn lie!" yelled John Ross. He looked at Karen and could clearly see a mixture of confusion and anger in her eyes. It was too much, the deathly quiet, the staring eyes, all transfixed upon him. John Ross turned and ran inside.

Karen looked at her father. After a few seconds, she spoke. "How could you do this to me on my wedding day? How could you? I never want to see your face again, NEVER!"

"I did it so you would know what kind of slime you were going to marry," replied Beam.

"And I assume you have proof that John Ross and Pamela were having an affair?" broke in J.R. smugly.

"You bet I do Ewing," said Beam, pulling out an envelope. He opened up the large brown envelope and pulled out a series of photos of John Ross and Pamela in bed. "Is this proof enough for you J.R.?" Beam passed the photos to J.R. who in turn showed them to the others.

Karen looked at Pamela, "No, it can't be true, tell me it isn't true!" Karen threw down her wedding bouquet and fled down the aisle, sobbing as she went.

Sue Ellen looked suspiciously at J.R.. "J.R.," she said to herself, "Did you have something to do with this? Can you even be that cruel?"

Cliff spoke up, yelling at Pamela, "I cannot believe you slept with a EWING! Tell me now, and I want the truth , did you sleep with John Ross Ewing and are you pregnant with his child, a Ewing's child."

"YES! It's all true, every bit of it," said Pamela Rebecca.

Christopher, who had been quiet through the whole thing, looked at Pamela. "How could you?" He then turned and walked away. Bobby went after him.

"My daughter, pregnant with the grandson of J.R. Ewing. I can't believe this is happening," said Cliff.

"Cliff," said Afton, "this is not the time or the place for this. Let's go home and we can discuss this privately."

"Afton," yelled Cliff, "we've GOT to do this now."

"No, Cliff, you just shut up now and I mean it," said Afton.

Pamela, in tears, turned and walked away. "Pamela," yelled Cliff, "you come back here, we're going home!" Pamela continued to walk, ignoring Cliff. "Come on Afton, we're going home. If Pamela wants to be a Ewing, she can stay with the Ewings."

Afton looked at Cliff. "Cliff, I want you to go and apologize to Pamela for being so rude, right now!"

Cliff looked at Afton "Look, she doesn't want to talk to me right now, can we now please go home, and have some dinner. Pamela can come home when she feels like it, she's almost a grown woman. Who knows, by the time she comes home this whole matter can be solved." Afton looked at Cliff, and thought that maybe, just maybe he wanted Pamela to solve this matter with John Ross before she could continue with her life.

The two walked back to the car and drove away, leaving Pamela behind at Southfork.

Meanwhile, Jenna and Ray stood, almost in awe of the whole situation, finally, Ray spoke up. "Jenna, since this isn't really any of our business, I think maybe we should get out of here for a while and let them work this out."

"Good idea, there's this new restaurant in town I've been wanting to try out. Why don't you come with us Lucy?" said Jenna.

"Ok, I will, anything to get away from here for a while."

"Alright then, let's go," motioned Ray. Ray, Jenna, Lucy, and Lucas got loaded into the car and started towards Dallas.

John Ross lay on his bed, staring up at the ceiling, feeling embarrassed, confused, and angry. His music was playing loudly, in hopes that it would take his mind off of the situation. He didn't hear the door open, or his mom come in. Sue Ellen turned off the music.

"John Ross?"

John Ross looked at her, "What is it Mom?"

"I thought maybe you would like to talk about it," smiled Sue Ellen.

"Really? I thought you would be the last person that wanted to see me."

"I'm your mother John Ross, no matter what you do, I will always love you. The thing I don't understand is why you did it? Don't you love Karen?"

John Ross looked back up at the ceiling, "Of course I love Karen, Mom, but I also love Pamela, or I did at the time anyway, but that doesn't matter now because Karen hates me."

"Let me tell you something John Ross, I remember when you were just a child and I was deeply in love with your father. When I found out what kind of man he really was, I was really hurt. But I never stopped loving him. That's why I eventually remarried him. Life is full of second chances, if it weren't, I probably wouldn't be here now. But what you have to do is take responsibility for Pamela and the baby, and at the same time, rebuild your love and trust with Karen. She's been hurt terribly and it will take her a long time to trust you again...but in time, it will happen."

"Thanks Mom, I feel a lot better." He answered sarcastically, Sue Ellen smiled and raised her eyebrows.

"Moms are supposed to be pearls of wisdom didn`t anyone tell you that?" She lowers her eyebrows, releasing her serious expression and giggles like small child. John Ross stared at his mother, rolled his eyes and smiled back.

"Well, there's a few people downstairs that would like to talk to you. Do you want to come down?" asked Sue Ellen.

"In a minute Mom, in a minute."

Christopher was saddling up his horse when Bobby found him. "Christopher, I've been looking all over for you, you had me really worried."

"Leave me alone Dad, I need some time to think," said Christopher in a hurt voice.

Bobby stepped towards him, "Look son, I know I'm butting in, but I thought you might need a friend."

Christopher looked at his dad, "Is John Ross like his father?"

"No Christopher, No one is quite like J.R.," said Bobby smiling, "Do you think I can join you?" Christopher nodded. Bobby got saddled up and the two rode off into the hot Texas afternoon.

"Karen!" called Beam, "Karen, where are you?" No answer.

Alan Beam had been searching for his daughter on the grounds of Southfork for a half hour now, and still had not found any sign of her. "Damn, I can't take this any more, I never meant to hurt her so badly, I...I thought I was doing her a favor, but now I'm not so sure." He fell down to his knees. "Damn you J.R.! Damn you!"

Sue Ellen walked down the winding staircase of Southfork where she met Pamela. "Pamela, I'm not so sure that seeing John Ross now is such a good idea."

Pamela ignored her and continued up to John Ross' room. She knocked on the door. No answer. She knocked once again. "John Ross? Are you there?"

A shaky voice replied, "Go away, Pamela, I don't want to talk right now." Despite what John Ross had said, Pamela opened the door. John Ross was still lying on his bed, only turned away from her and staring out the window at the dispersing wedding crowd. "Didn't you hear me? I said I didn't want to talk to you right now."

"John Ross, this is OUR child we're talking about and we've got to keep it's best interest at heart."

John Ross got up and walked toward Pamela, "Get the hell out of here," yelled John Ross.

"No John Ross, not until we've talked.

John Ross raised his hand and slapped her across the face, "Now leave!"

Tears welled inside Pamela's eyes, she was pushed out into the hall by him and the door was slammed in her face.

Back inside the room, John Ross was in tears himself. "I've done what I always feared would happen. I'm just like my father. No, I'm worse than that, he would never hit a woman. Oh God, what have I done, what have I done."

Sue Ellen noticed J.R. talking to a suspicious looking caterer. She peered around the corner and eavesdropped on the conversation. She heard the name Ratigan mentioned. "So that's the one he's been talking to," she thought.

"Good job Rattigan," said J.R., "I couldn't have done better myself. Now where the hell did you manage to find old Beam?"

"He was living in Philadelphia and he was more than happy to prevent his daughter from marrying a Ewing."

"John Ross is a Ewing alright, he owns 25% of Ewing Oil now," laughed J.R., "but not for long. I'll contact you if I need you again Ratigan, you can expect a big fat check in the mail and don't forget. I never forget who my friends are."

"Thanks J.R.."

Sue Ellen walked out into the living room, "So J.R., who's that you were talking to?"

J.R. walked into the living room with Sue Ellen, "Well, hello Sue Ellen. That's just one of the caterers. Have you seen John Ross?"

"J.R., the last thing he needs right now is you."

"Oh, and of course you would be the right person to talk to him eh? You who happened to be drunk almost every day of our marriage. You were always an unfit mother and you know it. I'll tell you this, I have just as much right to see my son as you have, so shut up darling and tell me where he is."

"Back off J.R.," said a voice.

J.R. turned around, "Well, Patricia, I noticed you at the wedding but I didn't get a chance to say hello."

"Don't you ever let me hear you talk to my daughter like that again. You were the one who caused her to drink. It was your fault," replied Patricia angrily. Patricia paused and put her hand to her head.

"Mother?" said Sue Ellen, "Are you ok?"

"Yes yes, don`t fuss, just all the excitement I guess."

She was interrupted by John Ross standing in the middle of the living room.

"There you are son," said J.R., "would you mind excusing me for a second?"

"Why? Whatever in the world for?" said Sue Ellen.

J.R. walked upstairs to his room and dialed Sly at Ewing Oil. "Hello Sly? I want you to get Sue Ellen out of this house right now, whatever you have to do."

"Ok J.R., I'll think of something," came Sly's voice.

J.R. walked back into the living room to find Sue Ellen, John Ross, and Patricia talking. "Sorry about that," he said.

Seconds later, Sue Ellen's cell phone began to ring. "Hello?"

"Sue Ellen, it's Sly. Gerald Sampson is here and he demands that he see you right away. It's about those contracts."

"Tell him I'll see him tomorrow," said Sue Ellen.

"I don't think he would be too happy about that."

"You're right, if we lose the Sampson deal, it would cost us millions. I'll be there as soon as I can." Sue Ellen hung up the phone. "I've got to go to the office, but I'll be back to finish this as soon as possible."

"I was thinking of going into town myself, you think I can join you, Sue Ellen?" said Patricia.

Sue Ellen replied "Of course, just get your things and I'll wait out in the car, are you sure you're ok?" Patricia raised her hand to dismiss her daughters comment.Patricia went upstairs to get her things, Pam went outside and J.R. stood in the living room, making himself a drink.

"So, son, do you want a drink? Because you sure as hell sound like you could use one."

"Maybe just a little sip," said John Ross, "have you seen Karen?"

"Not since that fool Beam broke up the wedding," replied J.R..

"Oh, well, I'd rather not talk about that right now."

"Of course not son, but you have to face it, you do have my genes in your blood."

"I know Dad, I know."

On the way out, Sue Ellen found Pamela sitting on the porch crying. "Are you expecting someone Pamela?"

"No, but can you give me a ride home?"

"Of course I can dear, I'm going into Dallas anyway, I'd be happy to drop you off at home."

Cliff was eating dinner with Afton and Mitch when the doorbell rang. "I'll get it Cliff," said Afton, "It might be Pamela." In a few seconds, she returned to the kitchen. "Cliff, that Carter McKay is here to see you."

"Carter McKay? What the hell does he want?"

Cliff wiped his mouth and went into the living room. "Well, hello Mac."

"Hello Cliff, I'm sorry to disturb you, but I need to talk to you." McKay sat down.

"I heard that you were going into the oil business again."

"I've been looking for an office, who told you that?" asked Cliff suspiciously.

"That's not important. I was thinking of starting my own oil company and then I heard that you were too. I thought perhaps we could start one company, as partners. You know, team up to give old J.R. a run for his money."

Cliff was surprised, "Well, don't you think our past arguments will put a strain on our relationship?"

"I'm willing to let bygones be bygones if you are," said McKay.

"Who told you that I was going back into the oil business?"

"My secretary is a friend of your wife. Now, are you willing to forgive and forget?"

"McKay, I honestly don't have an answer for you now, so much has happened. But I'll call you tomorrow."

"Ok Cliff, that's fair enough. I look forward to hearing from you."

Cliff showed McKay to the door and went back into the dining room.

Ray, Jenna, Lucas, and Lucy were sitting at a large table in the new Dallas restaurant. "Well, things are really starting to get back to the way they used to be around here," said Lucy. Jenna didn't say anything. She looked as if she were miles away.

"Why didn't John Ross and Karen get married today?" asked Lucas.

"Remind me to explain that later Lucas," said Ray, "Jenna? Are you ok?"

"I'm fine Ray, but I think it's time we get back to Southfork," replied Jenna.

"Good idea," said Lucy, "let's go."

Ray left a tip and they left the restaurant and went out into the late afternoon sunset. They got into the car and started on their way back to Southfork. All of a sudden, Ray slammed on the brakes and the car came to a screeching halt. There was someone in the road ahead. Ray got out and was startled to find that the person was Karen, so drunk she could barely walk. He picked her up and put her in the car.

Back at the ranch, Bobby and Christopher were still riding and had talked a lot about what happened. "Look Christopher, You can't blame yourself for everything bad that happens, you'll just end up destroying yourself that way."

"Well, I wasn't there when Pamela needed me so she turned to John Ross. How could I have been so stupid to think that she still loved me?"

Bobby looked at his son, "There is a difference in one-night stands and actually loving someone. I loved your mother, a part of me will always love Pam, but after she left, I had to move on. I found another woman to share my heart with, like April. I loved her as well, but not in the same way. Then she was ripped from my life and I had to move on yet again and that's what you have to do as well son."

"Go talk to Pamela, tell her how you feel and listen to what she has to say. If you two really love each other, then you won't let this break you apart. Give her your support and comfort her, let her know you haven't stopped loving her."

Christopher smiled at Bobby, "Thank you Dad."

"No problem Son."

"Where do you think my mother is now?" asked Christopher suddenly.

"Well Christopher, I don't know. But wherever she is, I know she still loves you with all of her heart."

"Will you tell me that story again?"

Bobby smiled, "Of course son, it all started twenty years ago when I met this nice girl in Dallas..." Bobby and Christopher rode back to the stables as the darkness approached.

Sue Ellen stood in her office. The meeting had taken a lot more time than she had expected and it was already getting dark outside. She looked out her window and watched the Dallas skyline.

"What a day," she thought.

Meanwhile, Sly gave herself a pat on the back upon arranging the early meeting between Sue Ellen and Sampson, which wasn't supposed to have happened until the next day.

Back at Southfork, J.R. and John Ross were still drinking. John Ross was getting pretty drunk while J.R. didn't seem touched at all.

"So, son, What are you going to do with 25% of Ewing Oil now?"

John Ross looked at his father, "I don't know...I don't even care anymore."

"Well son, it's important that Ewing Oil has a good, firm leadership. Not like Bobby or your mother. Bobby's always out on the ranch with Ray and your mother doesn't know the first thing about the oil business. How the hell could those two run a company. If they keep this mess up, then Ewing Oil, will be ran into the ground in no time. Do you want that to happen John Ross?"

"Hell no, but I don't know how to run an oil company, what do you suggest I do?"

J.R. smiled to his son and said, "Sell me your shares in Ewing Oil."

Bobby and Christopher were in the stables. "Well son, this turned out to be a strange day didn't it?"

Christopher answered, "Yeah, dad, I can't disagree with you on that."

"I'm going to Ft. Worth tomorrow to check out some cattle with Ray, would you like to come with us?" asked Bobby.

"Sure dad, I would love to."

Bobby and Christopher arrived at the house as Ray, Jenna, Lucas, Lucy, and Karen were just getting in. They all stared as Sue Ellen pulled into the drive going very fast, Patricia was by her side, she got out of the car.

"Where is John Ross? she said tensely.

Patricia waved her hands in the air, "I have no idea whats going on here?"

The group walked into the house to find J.R. in the living room, he looked up and smiled his most evil smile yet, holding some papers in his hand.

"Oh, hi Sue Ellen and Bob. Why don't you congratulate the new co-owner of Ewing Oil?"

Sue Ellen marched over to J.R.. "What the hell are you talking about?"

"Aren`t you happy for me darlin, huh? We may not share the same bed anymore but working side by side can be just as rewarding" J.R. grinned.

Bobby strolled over to J.R. "J.R. whats going on?"

J.R. smiled at Bobby "well if ya`ll will excuse me, I`ll be going, have a nice day now!" he laughed.

Sue Ellen looked at Bobby, she went to chase after him, Bobby put his hand on Sue Ellen's shoulder. "Leave it Sue Ellen, for now."

Patricia walked out of the room and watched J.R. as he walked up the southfork stairs. J.R. called Patricia.

J.R. stopped half way up the stairs and looked down , "What is it Patricia, if you're gonna tear the rag off me again , your wasting your time."

Patricia climbed the stairs and faced J.R.. "You have caused my daughter nothing but problems J.R., oh I thought that you were the man for her, but I was wrong and you`ve proved that. Patrcia moved up a step so she was in front of J.R..

J.R. raised his eyebrows and expressed his discomfort, "Patricia what are you doin', will you move out of my way?"

Patricia looked sternly at J.R. "She has suffered enough J.R., and I won`t let her suffer anymore!"

J.R. shook his head "Isn`t it a bit late to be playing the good mother Patricia?"

Patricia grabbed his arm, her hand shaking "Who the hell do you think you are?"

Sue Ellen walked over to the bar and poured herself a soda, Lucy sat down "Never a dull moment around here."

Bobby looked at her, "Lucy please?"

"I can`t believe he got back in." Lucy expressed.

The silence in the room was disturbed by the sound of a crash. Sue Ellen looked at Bobby.

The family ran out of the room. Sue Ellen stood in the hallway. "Oh my God!"she screamed as her mother lay at the bottom of the stairs, silent and still. J.R. stood from the top looking down.
