Pamela Barnes Ewing
Pamela Jean Barnes was born to Willard "Digger" Barnes (at least for the first 30 years or so of her life she was led to believe he was her father), and Rebecca Barnes. She had an older brother named Cliff; a couple other siblings had died of a mysterious genetic disease called neurofibromatosis. When Pam was little she was also led to believe her mother had died. Her Aunt Maggie Monahan played a large role in her upbringing, looking after her and Cliff when Digger was on one of his frequent drinking binges.

Not much seems to be known about Pam's teenage years. It is known that Pam was a high school cheerleader, and that her squad was in a competition in El Paso, Texas. It was there that she met a much older man named Ed Haynes. Haynes must have been a sweet talking guy, for he persuaded Pam to marry him, as he was being sent to Vietnam. She and Haynes went into Mexico to get married, but before they could consummate the marriage Digger caught up to them and had it annulled.

In between all this, Pam had of course heard of the infamous feud her daddy had with Jock Ewing. Digger made it sound like Jock Ewing was the devil himself, how he had swindled Digger out of his rightful share of a fortune. For a while when Pam was growing up she went along with the rest of the family in wanting to get revenge on the Ewing family. She started dating the Southfork foreman, Ray Krebbs, though that was sheer coincidence. Ray took her to various outings at Southfork, mostly to the famous Ewing barbecues. It was at the barbecue in 1977 that she met Bobby Ewing. Pam was instantly smitten with him. He must have felt the same way, because when they happened to run into each other in New Orleans the following year, she came back to Dallas as Mrs. Bobby Ewing.

Pam and Bobby were very happy in their sudden marriage, though both their families objected strenuously, in particular Bobby's oldest brother JR. This was only the beginning of a long standing, and mutual, hatred the two of them felt for each other. JR used Ray to try to break up Pam and Bobby in the first days of their marriage, but that didn't work out. Pam also got pregnant, but had an argument with JR in the hayloft of the Southfork barn and fell, and miscarried.

Soon afterward Pam began to get bored hanging around Southfork and decided to start back at her old job in the Store, a Dallas high society department store. This caused some friction between her and Bobby. Pam found out she was pregnant again; she had found out she was a carrier of neurofibramatosis, which was sometimes fatal in babies. She had another miscarriage and was then forced to tell Bobby of the disease.

Pam was about to get an even bigger shock when she found out that Digger wasn't her real father. Digger made a deathbed confession to her that Rebecca had had an affair with a man named Hutch McKinney, and that he was Pam's real father. Pam then became obsessed with finding out if her mother was perhaps still alive, and of course she found her and was initially rejected by Rebecca Wentworth. But after Rebecca's husband's death, she and Pam began to develop quite a close relationship. Pam found out she had a half sister named Katherine.

Pam soon tried to find out, since she didn't carry neurofibromatosis, if she could carry a baby to term. When she found out she couldn't, she became despondent and even attempted suicide. This led to her being in a psychiatric hospital for a time. She thought her prayers were answered when she came home to Southfork after having checked herself out of the hospital and found Bobby with a baby boy. In a complex turn of events Pam and Bobby were eventually granted legal custody of Christopher. Pam was quite happy with her life in these days.

But soon her marriage would begin to fall apart, when Bobby was thrown into a fight with JR for control of Ewing Oil. Pam tried to get Bobby to quit the fight, but it became apparent Bobby welcomed the competition with his brother to control the family company. To make things worse, Pam met a very attractive man named Mark Graison, who was obviously very interested in her. It was shortly after Pam met Mark that Rebecca died in a plane crash; the flight Rebecca had been making was tied indirectly to the fight for Ewing Oil, and Pam partly blamed Bobby for her mother's death. She took Christopher and left Southfork after her mother's funeral. Pam didn't know this, but Katherine had fallen in love with Bobby and decided she wanted him for herself. When Pam filed for divorce Katherine played the part of loving supporting sister, while behind the scenes scheming with JR to make sure the divorce was finalized. JR warned Pam about going back to Bobby, but she was about to do just that, when Katherine read to Bobby a letter Pam had supposedly written to her lawyer. This letter said Pam didn't love Bobby anymore, but she would still go back to him just to make him happy, though it would no longer make her happy to be with him. So her marriage to Bobby ended.

She became much more involved with Mark Graison, though at first she held back because of her lingering feelings for Bobby. She became quite disgusted when she found out Jenna Wade had come back into Bobby's life. In the upcoming months Mark proposed to Pam; she didn't accept until she found out Mark was dying of a form of leukemia. She didn't want Mark to know of his disease until after their wedding, but he did find out. One morning Pam got a call that Mark's plane had been lost over the Gulf of Mexico, and (apparently) Mark was dead.

Pam eventually found out how Katherine helped break up her marriage, and told Katherine to stay out of her life. That wasn't to be, as Katherine became so obsessed with not being able to have Bobby for herself that she shot him. Pam still hoped for a reconciliation with Bobby, but it became apparent that wouldn't happen, as he and Jenna made wedding plans. Around this time Pam was led to believe that Mark might not have died after all; she was outside her office building one day and saw Mark's car drive by. She eventually hired a private detective to see if Mark might have sought some kind of unconventional treatment for his disease. She even went as far as to fly to a clinic in the Caribbean to see if Mark might have been there, but she found out JR had sent her on a wild goose chase, to keep her away from Bobby. Pam later got information that Mark might have gone to Hong Kong for treatment. JR swore he wasn't behind this trip, so Pam got Sue Ellen to accompany her on her journey. Pam thought she was going to find Mark there, but this turned out to be a different kind of deception than her trip to the Caribbean had been...

She returned to Dallas thinking that Mark really was dead. Her feelings for Bobby became harder for her to ignore.... Jenna was on trial for the murder of Naldo Marchetta, and so she and Bobby spent more time together. One night after she invited Bobby over for dinner she told him she still loved him; Bobby told Pam he loved her too. Bobby felt torn between Pam and Jenna, but chose to ask Pam to re-marry him after Jenna was cleared of her murder charges. Pam accepted ecstatically. After a long dream where Bobby "died" and Mark came back into her life Pam awakened to find Bobby in her shower. She was confused at first, but then Bobby reassured her it was all just a bad dream. She and Bobby proceeded with their wedding plans, despite finding out Jenna was pregnant with Bobby's child. Pam at first approached Jenna about possibly adopting the child Jenna was carrying (and was turned down flat), then became somewhat obsessed with Jenna's pregnancy. Eventually Pam found out she could possibly carry a baby to full term; she found this out shortly after Jenna gave birth to Bobby's son, whom she named Lucas. As Pam was driving home from a doctor's appointment she was involved in a fiery car crash, and was left badly burned. She was unable to bear the thought of facing Bobby and Christopher with the horrible scars she would surely be left with, so she decided to get out of Bobby's life, to let him remember her as she had been before her accident. The next year Cliff got a lead from Jordan Lee that Pam was still alive, so he found her... but Pam told him she didn't want to come back into his life, nor was she coming back to Dallas. She told Cliff she had a new life with her doctor, and that Cliff, Bobby, and Christopher were in her past.

(That was the last appearance of Pam on the TV show. The following events took place on Return to Southfork and aren't a part of Dallas).

From that point on, Pam's life became a living hell. Many of the events that occurred during that time are still hazy to Pam. Katherine has pulled many mind games with her. The following events were revealed when Pam was put under hypnosis by Ryanne Hancock.

According to Pam, she never left Dallas on her own free will. When she was still in the hospital from the explosion, Pam was kidnapped by Katherine. In the parking lot, a confrontation transpired between Katherine and Jenna. Katherine lied to Jenna, telling her that she was carrying Pam to a rest home, but Jenna knew better. Jenna was about to yell for help, but Katherine threatened to hurt Charlie if she did. Jenna watched as Katherine put Pam in the car and took her away, but never said anything about it.

During the next few weeks, Katherine began to worry if her threat was still loud in clear in Jenna's mind. She didn't want anyone telling that she had taken Pam away. Katherine arranged for Jenna to be drugged and it made her begin to feel disoriented.

The next three years are some of the vaguest in Pam's memory, but it is assumed she received extensive plastic surgeries to erase her burn scars during this time. In 1990, Pam, in a strange turn of events, married Mark Graison. During this time, she had reconciled with her sister, though the exact reason why seems to have been lost with all of Pam's memories. In 1992, Pam gave birth to Mark's baby, a little boy by the name of Alexander Marcus Graison.

Their marriage lasted for three vague years and Pam began to see things. She was taken to several psychiatrists, but none could give a definite diagnosis to her problem. Years later, Mark Graison would discover that Katherine had been drugging her during this time! Though the exact circumstances aren't known, Katherine had apparently suffered some kind of accident that left her unable to have a child of her own.

During the time before Pam and Mark married, Katherine had been harboring feelings of love for Mark. Knowing that Pam could have a baby, Katherine arranged for them to marry, knowing that Pam would get pregnant. And as soon as she gave birth, Katherine would drug her and have Mark commit her to a sanitarium. Then, Katherine and Mark would raise the baby. After committing Pam to a sanitarium in 1993, Mark began to fall in love with Katherine. In 1995, he married her and they both raised Alexander. The whole time, Katherine did little things to "torture" Pam while in the sanitarium. She'd send her videos of Bobby and April together and she continued to have Pam drugged by a paid off sanitarium employee. That way, Pam would never be stable enough to be released.

In July 1996, Alexander suddenly became very sick. Katherine and Mark, fearing for his health, took him to a Paris hospital. Katherine stayed with him while Mark went home to get some things for Alexander. When he returned to the hospital, Katherine informed him that Alexander had died. Mark never saw the baby again as Katherine went behind his back and had the child buried in a private burial. Mark didn't know about it and didn't attend. He was furious with Katherine after that, but she told him she thought it was best for him not to be there.

In the summer of 1998, Christopher Ewing followed a lead to look for Pam. However, it turned out to be a wild goose chase by none other than J.R. By then, Katherine thought it was time to send Pam back to Dallas, to stir up the pot once more. So, playing the kind sister, Katherine led Christopher to Pam and Christopher brought Pam back to Dallas where they walked in just in time to discover that Bobby's plane had gone down somewhere in the Alps.

Pam first began to blame J.R. and told the family that he was responsible for keeping her away from Dallas all those years, but this just turned out to be false memories due to the drugging and all the videos of the Ewings Pam had been forced to watch all those years. Bobby returned from the Alps with Jenna, and he and Pam had the reunion they'd been waiting for for over eleven years. They soon took off on the Oil Baron's Cruise, but J.R's stateroom was set on fire and Pam was blamed when Jenna announced she had seen her go in right before the fire. Pam's worst nightmares came true as she was arrested. On Halloween night, it was revealed through tapes from an onboard surveilance camera that Jenna had set the fire in an attempt to frame Pam. Jenna overheard this evidence and committed suicide by hanging herself from the staircase. Jenna had apparently snapped after all those years of being drugged by Katherine to keep her quiet about the kidnapping.

On New Year's Day, 1999, she and Bobby were to be married, but Katherine's schemes ruined things. Mark and Katherine (still married) were in town. Katherine had convinced Mark to come with her to Dallas for the wedding (he still thought she had changed and wasn't the evil Katherine of the past). However, she planted a bomb in Southfork that killed several people. Pam and Bobby married that day in the hospital room. Two months later, Pam discovered she was pregnant! She and Bobby were finally happy together.

Things wouldn't go smoothly for long though, as Pam began to have strange memory flashes from her past. As she thought about her new baby, she had flashbacks of another child. It was during a hypnosis session by Ryanne Hancock that Pam learned about her marriage to Mark. Pam and Bobby both went to Mark's house and Mark confessed that he and Pam had had a baby, Alexander Marcus Graison. He also told her that the baby had died. Pam was upset because she couldn't remember it.

Around this time, Katherine decided to strike another blow to Pam and she rigged phony documents saying that Digger Barnes was Pam's father after all, and that she was indeed a carrier of neurofibramitosis—a disease which could ultimately kill her unborn baby. While Pam was in Paris with Ryanne, they met with Alexander's former nanny and questioned her about the child. To their surprise, the nanny says "He is a beautiful boy. Pam and Ryanne are both surprised and wonder if Alexander could still be alive. However, it's soon discovered that Katherine has paid off the nanny to say that. When the nanny later asks Katherine for her money, Katherine shoots her. Mark flies to Paris and he and Pam decide to find out together if Alexander is alive.

Katherine later sent Pam the address of the cemetery in Paris where Alexander was buried. Mark takes her there and they have a touching moment in front of the baby's tombstone. Katherine followed them, but they spotted her and a car chase took place, which ended in Katherine's car aflame. Though a body isn't found, they all assumed Katherine is dead.

Pam returned to Dallas where she informed Bobby that Katherine told her she was Digger's daughter. Pam went to a geneticist and had tests run. They later came back saying that there was no way Pam carried neurofibramitosis. Katherine had lied once again.

They both attended the Ewing Barbecue together, happy once again. Mark and Ryanne had fallen in love and for a while everything seemed to be getting back to normal—until Bobby received a call saying that Katherine was alive and in the hospital in Paris. He and Pam took the next flight to Europe and visited with Katherine. To their surprise, Katherine had amnesia and had no memory of her past life. They were both skeptical, but Pam managed to get Katherine out of Europe and they flew her back to the United States. When they arrived in Dallas, Pam moved into the Wentworth house with her, in an attempt to prove whether or not she had a genuine case of amnesia.

For the next few weeks, she and Katherine grew closer. Katherine was sweet and kind—the sister that Pam had always wanted. This became a great source of tension between Pam and Bobby, and just recently, she and Bobby had a huge fight.

Now, Katherine is closer than ever to finding out the truth about her past. When and if she does, Pam's very life will be in jeopardy.
