Episode 33

Almost two weeks had passed since the explosion at Southfork, the wedding, and Cliff's death. Pam stood staring out the window of the hotel room that she and Bobby now lived in in downtown Dallas. Her thoughts flashed back to the day after her wedding, when she had first heard from Bobby that Cliff was dead…

"Oh Bobby," said Pam. The two had spent their wedding night in the hospital and the whole wedding had been one to remember. "I…I can't believe this. Why haven't you already told me that Cliff was killed…"

"Pammy, you were in such a weak state…I couldn't risk worsening your condition."

Bobby held Pam in his arms as she cried. "Cliff and I rarely even talked these past few months."

"Ssshhh. Don't do this to yourself."

"What am I going to do?"

"I'll take care of everything for you Pam."

She needed to get away from Dallas…had to get away from Dallas. If she didn't, she knew she would go crazy.

Ray sat alone in the hotel room that he had rented. Donna had taken the room next door. The two didn't want to stay together yet…not so soon after Andrew Dowling's death, but they were close enough to see each other often. Just last week, Ray had seen Donna off to the airport to catch her flight bound for Washington D.C. She would be back tomorrow…he couldn't wait.

With her would be his daughter, their daughter, Margaret. There were many thoughts that flashed through his head. What if Margaret doesn't accept him? What if Lucas doesn't accept Donna? What if Lucas and Margaret resent each other?

Determined to put the thoughts out of his mind, Ray grabbed his coat off of the rack near his door. He would go to Southfork to see how the construction was going. The door slammed shut behind him as Ray stepped out into the hallway.

Christopher and Karen sat at the coffee shop in downtown Dallas, sipping their coffee. Both were basically silent. Thoughts flew through Christopher's head. He had to tell Karen.

"Karen…"

"Yeah?"

"There's something you have to know."

"What is it?"

"It's about Megan."

"Oh my God, is she okay?"

"Yeah, she's fine. As you know, she had to get a blood transfusion. Karri, there's no easy way to say this. Megan is my daughter."

Karen's coffee cup crashed to the table, shattering and sending hot coffee spilling over the edge of the glass table. "Christopher…no!"

"I'm sorry. But that happened before you and I ever met. It's not like I've had an affair behind your back."

"I know Christopher…I'm not mad, not at all. It just came as a shock to me. What are you going to do?"

"That all depends on Pamela Rebecca."

"How so?"

"If she's cooperative, and plans on letting me play a part in Megan's life, then everything will be okay. But if she's stubborn, and won't let me, then I'm going to sue her for custody."

"When will you know?"

"I'm going to talk to her right now. Do you want to come?"

"No…it's probably best if I don't."

"Ok."

Eric Stone sat within earshot of the table. He had heard everything Christopher and Karen had said. Despite what Karen had said, he knew she was hurt by it. Now was the time for him to widen the rift. He walked over to a payphone to call Carla.

Pamela Rebecca watched over Megan as Christopher entered the room. "Hi Pamela," he said quietly.

"Hello Chris."

"How is she?"

"She's fine, thanks to you. Christopher, you have to believe me. I had no idea that she was your baby or I would have told you."

"I know. But what now? Are you going to let me see Megan? Or keep her from me? Is she eventually going to know I'm her dad?"

"Christopher, the old Pamela Rebecca would have done anything in her power to keep you from Megan…but I'm not the old Pamela Rebecca. I've changed. It'll be hard for John Ross, but Megan has to call you 'daddy'. I don't want to lie to her." Pamela Rebecca began to cry and Christopher held her.

"Sshhh, don't worry Pamela Rebecca. Everything is going to work out for the best."

"I hope so Christopher."

Pam and Bobby sat in their hotel room. Pam had been released after being treated for a concussion. However, her pain that she felt because of her loss of Cliff hurt a lot more than that she felt in her head.

"Pam, after the funeral, what do you say we leave Dallas…no, that's not good enough. Let's leave the United States."

"But what about Christopher?"

"Maybe he'll come to. He and Karen aren't really tied down here. And if he doesn't want to come, then we can come back and visit often."

"Bobby, I think it would do me some good to get away from here, at least for a while. We can go take a look at the house Jenna left…and find out what's in it."

"Pam, no…please. Jenna has been dead for over two months now. Her reign of terror has ended. Whatever is in that house might stir it all up again. Do you really want to risk that?"

"But I'm so curious."

"Honey, I know…but can't we let it rest? Do we really need to continue to let Jenna control us even after she's gone?"

"Maybe you're right."

"I know I'm right. Let it rest. Let's forget about the will and the key."

"Okay. I will. Bobby, can we go out to Southfork and walk around for a while?"

"Are you sure you're feeling up to it? And besides, it's getting late."

"Yes, I'm fine."

Pam and Bobby stood before the pond, next to Bobby's old treehouse on the ranch. With one hand, Pam held Bobby's hand, with the other, she clasped the key.

"Pam, what did you want to come out here for?"

Without answering, Pam tossed the key into the pond. It hit the water, making a splash and sending ripples across the surface. The ripples in the pond were probably nothing compared to the ripples that the house would have made in Pam's life. The moonlight shone on the pond as the key sank to the bottom, coming to its final resting place among the aquatic plants. In a few days' time, the key would be completely submerged in the mud…never to be found again.

"Come on Bobby, let's go back."

Afton Cooper lay on her bed, crying. She did love Cliff, despite all that had happened. She thought back to the Halloween Ball where she had dressed as Hillary Clinton. A smile came across her face, but was soon replaced with tears.

Afton had been very surprised to see her mother at her house the day before, but she was happy to have her there anyway. There had been something strange about her…as if she were hiding something. But what did she have to hide? Afton had no idea that Arliss had kept Cliff prisoner, only to be dumped in a lake by him, still alive, and left for dead…
